We're pleased to announce the launch of the first free-to-air South Asian TV channel on Freeview – Rishtey TV Europe. Available since Tuesday 11 August 2015, Rishtey TV Europe airs on Freeview channel 77 from the Arqiva Freeview multiplex. Together, Rishtey TV Europe and Arqiva have worked to deliver English sub-titles to support the programmes, which will broaden the reach of Rishtey TV’s audience to non-Hindi speakers in the UK.
Launched over two years ago as Viacom18’s second channel, Rishtey TV Europe boasts a huge variety of entertainment programmes from Bollywood blockbusters, to soaps, dramas, non-fiction, kids and youth programming, and locally produced programmes like Desi Beats. By broadcasting on Freeview –nationally in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland –just over 72 per cent of UK Households, and Freeview HD viewers, who currently represent about 4.5 million households, will be able to watch Rishtey Europe for the first time.
“Indiacast is delighted to be the first to bring such diverse South Asian entertainment content via Rishtey TV Europe, to such a wide audience in the UK, for free on Freeview. Additionally, by airing the content with English sub-titles we are excited to invite people to experience the culture of South Asian entertainment, who do not speak the local language."
“Arqiva is proud to have worked with Indiacast to launch Rishtey TV Europe with English sub-titles on Freeview, to not only bring South Asian viewers a step closer to their culture, but to open the culture to a wider non-South Asian audience, who want to enjoy this type of entertainment too.”
If Freeview viewers are able to receive BBC News HD on Freeview Channel 107, then subject to rescanning their TV or set top box, they should be able to view Rishtey TV Europe on Freeview Channel 77.
Rishtey Europe TV is now available on Sky, Virgin, Freesat and Freeview along with other OTT players.
