At the heart of broadcast and data networks
We've been there since the beginning
From supplying the means to broadcast the UK Government’s budget announcement on the radio for the first time in 1928, and delivering the first TV broadcast from the tower at Alexandra Palace in 1936, to servicing the infrastructure behind much of the UK’s television, radio, satellite and machine-to-machine communications today, Arqiva’s story is intertwined with the history of communications in the UK.
Just some of the key milestones in our history are on the timeline below, some of which may surprise you.
There are many, many more that we could list, including our involvement in the development of Teletext at our Crawley Court site in the mid-1970s and that we were the first company in Europe to trial 5G fixed wireless access technology in 2017. We remain at the forefront of communications infrastructure and media services because we have a focus on innovation and a desire to ensure we continually meet the needs of businesses and consumers.
