Strathclyde Police, in conjunction with the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) and supported by Arqiva, launched an eight month mobile data trial in the first quarter of 2008.

Arqiva's multi-bearer and multi-device Police Mobile Data Solution will allow Strathclyde Police officers to use Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's) and in-vehicle Mobile Data Terminals (MDT's) using GPRS and Airwave technology throughout the trial.

The trial also integrates Arqiva's Police Mobile Data Solution with the PRONTO electronic police notebook application, enabling data to be transferred between applications to minimise data input.

The police mobile data solution will give officers a secure connection to National and Force Databases, providing them with key information at the point of service delivery to enable them to make informed decisions using their police powers and provide an enhanced service to the public.

Information gathered electronically will immediately be available to specialist departments and management, providing enhanced access to policing information when considering the use of resources to meet the demands of the public. These administrative efficiencies will facilitate greater officer visibility for public reassurance.
