Broadcast technology - complementary to cellular
Over the past 3-4 years, broadcast technologies have developed significantly to the point where they are now ready to be deployed for mass market mobile TV services.
There are currently four main contender technologies for mobile broadcast delivery networks in Europe: DVB-H, DAB-IP, T-DMB, and QUALCOMM MediaFloTM.
In summary:
DVB-H is a derivative of the established DVB-T standard used for the delivery of the Freeview service in the UK.
DAB-IP is the IP extension to the DAB standard, which allows an IP datacasting layer (for mobile TV) on top of the existing DAB layer.
T-DMB is another technology, based on the DAB standard.
QUALCOMM MediaFloTM is a technology developed by QUALCOMM.
