- NTL's In-Building mobile telephony solution destined for Capital Shopping Centres
- Nine major locations around the UK covering an area of 8 million sq ft
- Solutions installed with easy migration path to 3G
NTL's Wireless Solutions group has agreed terms to install shared mobile telephony systems inside nine retail locations owned by Capital Shopping Centres PLC, the UK's leading shopping centre company with properties including The Metro Centre (Gateshead), Eldon Square (Newcastle), The Glades (Bromley), The Chimes (Uxbridge) and The Victoria Centre (Nottingham). 175 million shoppers each year will be able to benefit from enhanced quality of service when using their mobiles especially when inside shops.
With consumer expectations continually rising, owners of shopping centres and other public spaces are increasingly aware of the need to provide internal infrastructure to support mobile phones. NTL's innovative system provides the mobile operators with a single shared solution to which they can connect their base station equipment. From the landlord's perspective, there is only one installation and one point of contact. Antennas are located discreetly throughout the centres and provide an evenly distributed, low-power signal.
Richard Belt, Director, CSC Enterprises, said "Almost everyone has a mobile phone these days and customers expect to be able to use it wherever they are. With NTL's system we hope to provide the best service quality, even on the busiest of days, with no aesthetic impact on our interiors."
Nick Hyam, product manager for In-Building Solutions at NTL, added: "This agreement fully endorses our approach of providing shared infrastructure for all mobile operators. It is an attractive, efficient and convenient solution for property owners and mobile operators alike. We look forward to working with CSC Enterprises to help make the shopping experience even better for millions of people in these major centres."
