  • NTL helps launch UK's first property TV channel
  • First channel on NTL's new Eurobird platform
  • Complete channel package from playout to satellite capacity

NTL's broadcast division, leading service provider to the UK broadcast and media industry, has joined forces with The Move Channel to make UK broadcasting history.  NTL has signed the channel as the first customer for its new Eurobird channel package announced in June.  In doing so, NTL will help launch what will be the UK's first TV channel dedicated to all aspects of property.

The Move Channel, a venture of The Move Channel TV plc, will be a property information channel on digital satellite, catering for people needing information about properties and related services.  The channel will allow viewers to see properties in short video form and then request further details on screen, or make an appointment via the Internet.  The channel will have a 24/7 programme schedule that will feature properties from London and surrounding counties, as well as prestige properties, country homes and new developments from across the UK.  Viewers will be able to see details of new properties in their chosen programme segment at the same time each day.

The five-year deal with NTL includes offices and play-out from NTL's Broadcast Media Centre, fibre connectivity to the company's Winchester teleport, uplinking and space segment on the Eurobird 1 direct-to-home satellite.  The new channel is due to start broadcasting on 13 September.

NTL's head of satellite and playout, Simon Thrush said: "We're delighted to be providing an end-to-end channel package for The Move Channel.  Outsourcing the technical functions to a competent service provider allows the channel to focus on its commercial goals.  At NTL we're able to work in partnership with a new channel to meet their exact needs, and use our experience to get on-air successfully - and stay there."

Kevin Cochrane, commercial director of The Move Channel, added: " The Move Channel is a significant development in digital TV, therefore it is essential that we have a technology partner that can provide expertise across all operational areas.  We have no hesitation in entrusting these crucial elements of our channel to NTL's safe hands, and look forward to a long and successful partnership."
