Cambridge Microsoft Technology Trial
After a successful partnership with Microsoft during their launch of Windows Media 9 (WM9), Arqiva was chosen to assist with their development of digital broadcast platforms to carry Windows-based services to a variety of target devices.
In Cambridge UK, Arqiva deployed VHF and L-Band DAB networks, plus a UHF DVB-H broadcast infrastructure. Combining these with a state-of-the-art IP infrastructure enabled Microsoft to broadcast and test a variety of experimental services. A direct outcome of this research was the BT Movio mobile TV service soon to be rolled out in the UK.
Collaboration has not stopped there, though, and Arqiva is currently upgrading the DVB-T network to provide DVB-H based services to mobile devices, including PDAs and Tablet PCs. In this phase, Penthera Technologies (a provider of Electronic Services Guides), will also collaborate on the trial.
