Arqiva announces updated electronic Patient Record Form solution for ambulances

25th Apr 2007

  • Updated version of Formalise electronic Patient Record Form to work on Windows XP and utilise latest laptop hardware
  • Enables sharing of medical information between Rapid Responder and ambulance paramedics via Bluetooth
  • Patient details passed quickly and easily to A&E staff using smartcard technology
  • Integrates with Arqiva's Mobilise 2 for end-to-end solution

Arqiva today announced that it has updated Formalise, its electronic Patient Report Form (ePRF) solution. Formalise is designed to enable Rapid Responders and ambulance paramedics to complete vital patient report forms quickly and easily. Built on the Windows XP platform, the enhanced solution is compatible with the latest laptop hardware and allows recorded information to be shared via Bluetooth technology.

A smartcard containing the completed patient forms is passed on to A&E workers on arrival at the hospital, cutting the time ambulance crews spend on paper work and enabling them to concentrate on providing critical care. It also enables patient details to be shared quickly and securely, ensuring the best possible treatment can be given in emergency situations.

Formalise can also be fully integrated with Mobilise 2, Arqiva's mobile data system for ambulances, to provide a complete end-to-end ambulance mobilisation product solution. A direct interface between the two products allows incident data from Mobilise 2 to be transferred to Formalise, creating a complete electronic record of both the incident and the patient.

Arqiva's updated Formalise solution was unveiled at BAPCO 2007 in April and includes the following improvements:

  • A one-click transfer function for all associated forms
  • The ability to record multiple attempts at procedures such as cannulation
  • Updated clinical guidelines from the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC 2006) and the Emergency Response Guidebook for Hazardous Materials (ERGO 2004)
  • The ability to record out-of-hours (unscheduled care) information
  • The addition of the Falls and Clinical Paramedic Tutor (CPT) assessment forms

Together Formalise and Mobilise 2 enable incident and patient data to be captured and stored on a secure central server, enabling effective data reporting when clinical audit information is required. The data collected can be used to help to identify trends and highlight areas in which ambulance crews require training.

Peter Harris, Mobile Data Product Manager at Arqiva's Public Safety division commented, "The updated Formalise is an easy-to-use and cost-effective solution that saves time and minimises paperwork for ambulance crews whilst providing critical information wirelessly. Its compatibility with our Mobilise 2 solution also provides a complete end-to-end mobile data system, data capture and storage solution and makes this a vital instrument for the modern-day ambulance service."
