Arqiva, the UK's leading provider of public safety communications support services, today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to relocate its radio and telephone control systems. The new purpose built facility will be shared with the local Police and Ambulance services in the town of Carmarthen in West Wales.
As the principal maintainer of the Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service's existing communication systems, Arqiva has the in-depth expertise and resources needed to de-install, relocate and re-commission the radio and telephone control systems within the agreed 48 hour timeframe. Arqiva was able to offer a single-supplier solution for the project, encompassing a pre-project survey, provision of aerial rigging and desktop mobile installations as well as the relocation of the radio and telephone control systems.
The close working relationship between Arqiva's local engineers and the Mid West & Wales Fire and Rescue Service's communications team is particularly important given the mission-critical nature of communications to the service. With the main radio and telephone control system scheduled to move onto a robust fall-back contingency network and then to be fully functional again 48 hours after the start of the project, Arqiva's expertise and experience is vital in ensuring minimal disruption.
Nigel Williams, head of Communications and Information Systems at the Mid West & Wales Fire and Rescue Service said, "We knew we could safely entrust our communications systems to Arqiva's care as we have every satisfaction with the job they have done for us to date. We are confident in Arqiva's ability to meet the tight timescale, enabling us to continue with the vital service we provide to the local community."
Alastair Davidson, managing director of Public Safety at Arqiva commented, "Our experience in providing support services for public safety communications gave us a great appreciation for the critical nature of this project. We are delighted to continue our close working relationship with the Service to ensure that they can continue their vital work uninterrupted."
Arqiva's Public Safety group has over 40 years experience of working in partnership with the UK's public safety organisations to provide communications solutions.
