Bangla TV, the first Bengali-language channel outside Bangladesh and India, is to use satellite uplink and space segment from Arqiva's Satellite Media Solutions division. In a five-year deal, Arqiva is to help deliver the news and entertainment channel to around 600,000 Bengali speakers across the northern hemisphere.
"As Bangla TV moves into its seventh year on air, it has aggressive expansion plans, including adding its news as streamed content on its website," says Bangla TV's managing director Feroze Khan. "Arqiva will be central to achieving these plans by providing high quality services while keeping the cost of satellite services as low as possible."
"Bangla TV is an innovative and essential service to the Bengali community around the world," says Arqiva's Satellite Media Solutions head of broadcast sales John Bozza. "I look forward to helping Bengali-speakers in multiple regions retain contact with their heritage."
Bangla TV airs on Sky's digital platform on EPG 811.
