MCR Engineer

Purpose:

  • To operate and maintain the earth station facilities within the Teleport, and at remote sites, ensuring that required service standards are met
  • Maintain working relationships with Arqiva staff at other facilities, service and systems suppliers

Key Objectives:

  • Monitor and control all operational equipment within the Teleport (including associated terrestrial circuits) to ensure the appropriate level of customer service is achieved
  • Using management systems, and other technical resources, clear equipment faults at the Teleport as quickly as possible.  Escalate issues to the Systems Engineer for assistance as required
  • Assist in the replacement of faulty equipment (board or unit level) and arrange for the repair of such items to maintain the integrity of Teleport services
  • Liaise with third parties (e.g. satellite providers, internal and external engineers) to investigate and clear faults within specified times
  • Provide timely information and updates to customers and Network Operations Management during any service incident
  • Produce accurate service reports following incidents and at the request Network Operations Management
  • Assist in the reconfiguration of equipment and systems as necessary
  • Assist in the running of the technical stores
  • Assist in the production or amendment of documentation
  • Assist in the completion of routine checks on site safety systems as required
  • Assist the Teleport Manager in the maintenance of ISO9001:2000 accreditation
  • Provide ad-hoc support to customers as required
  • Ensure health and safety standards at the Teleport are maintained.  Promptly report any risks to the Teleport Manager
  • Undertake technical training to ensure an up to date knowledge of the systems and technologies on site
  • Shift working with extended hours at short notice
  • Provide leave/sickness cover for Bedford MCR as required
  • Travel to other Arqiva sites and customer premises on occasion
  • Carry out any tasks commensurate with the post as directed by the Teleport Manager

  • Able to work in a customer facing role within an operational environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work with the minimum of supervision, to strict specifications and timescales
  • Capacity to fault-find complex systems, and act quickly and decisively to restore service

Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • BTEC ONC/OND potential, Maths GCSE (C or above), or similar level of knowledge and experience
  • PC (or Linux) literate with a good understanding of Office applications
