Management Profile: Steve Holebrook

Managing Director, Terrestrial Broadcast

Steve is the managing director of Arqiva's terrestrial broadcasting division, which provides analogue and digital transmission services to the UK's terrestrial TV and radio broadcasters.  As a result of acquiring National Grid Wireless, the company also owns and operates two of the six UK digital terrestrial TV multiplexes, enabling major media companies to broadcast their TV and radio services on Freeview.

Since 2005 Steve has championed Arqiva's role in the Digital Switch Over project, whose objective is to ensure that the transition of analogue TV to digital-only service occurs on a regional basis throughout the UK between 2008 and 2012.  Steve led the Arqiva team which secured contracts worth approx £3.5 billion from the BBC, D34 and SDN to build the four high-power DTT networks and was also responsible for leading the early DSO project build-out phase.

Previously Steve was director of NTL Broadcast's satellite service group and led the establishment of ad-hoc, playout and direct-to-home platforms within its service portfolio.  Prior to joining NTL in 1995, Steve held a variety of positions in the satellite and telecoms industry working for Mercury, Kingston Satellite Services, British Aerospace and British Telecom International.

Steve graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering in 1987 and gained a Master of Science postgraduate degree at Surrey University in 1989.
