Management profile: Phil Moses

Chief Financial Officer

Phil joined Arqiva as Chief Financial Officer in June 2011 having held a variety of senior finance roles at BT since 1991.

Most recently he was CFO of Openreach supporting a near £5bn business that is functionally separate from the rest of BT, and responsible for the ‘last mile’ of the network. In his first year as CFO, Openreach reduced its business-as-usual cash costs by 12%, allowing the savings to be invested in the super-fast fibre broadband network, while maintaining free cash flow at £1bn.

Prior to this he was Group Controller for BT for four years having been promoted from Investor Relations Director in 2005.

Phil started in Investor Relations when the BT/MMO2 de-merger took place in 2001. His remit was to manage two-way communication between BT and the investment community, including quarterly results presentations, one-to-one meetings, consensus forecasts, international roadshows and conference presentations.

Prior to that he was Chief Financial Officer of BT Ignite (now BT Global Services), a business focusing on multi-site corporates created in June 2000 and realigned on a Pan-European basis in April 2001. He was responsible for all financial aspects of the organisational build and was instrumental in driving improvements in EBITDA and significantly reducing cash outflow.

Phil also served as Non Executive Director on the board of Albacom SpA (the No.2 operator in the Italian business telecoms market) for three years, having previously served on the board of LineOne (a leading UK ISP) for two years.

Earlier still, he held several other managerial roles within BT often working in the regulatory finance and product profitability areas.

Before joining BT, Phil worked in the finance department at the Legal & General Assurance Company from 1985.

Phil gained a BSc (Hons) degree from Warwick University in 1985 and attained ACCA status (Certified Accountancy) in 1988. A keen sports fan, he is married with three children and lives in north-west London.
