Purpose:

Working within the Chalfont Media Centre, Senior Transmission Controllers ensure quality and continuity of service across multiple television channels, and are able to deputise for Shift Leaders when necessary.

Key Objectives:

• Monitoring of the automated transmission system, manually intervening as required
• Editorial decision making where ‘Live' inserts to transmission affect schedule timings
• Monitoring of channel outputs for quality and continuity of service
• Execution of transmission schedules to ensure exact content is transmitted at the correct time
• Direct Liaison with third party MCR and control rooms to ensure ancillary feeds are available
• First Line fault diagnosis and liaising with the Engineering team as required
• Ensuring adherence to Ofcom specifications and guidelines
• Managing scheduled caching of programme material
• Responsible for the deployment of redundant systems under failure conditions
• Responsible for limited editorial control within set client guidelines
• Thorough understanding of all operational procedures within Playout
• Thorough understanding of technical configuration of Playout automation systems
• Assist in training of team members to competent level of understanding of playout systems
• Deputising for Shift Leader whenever necessary
• Working within a team environment the post holder will report to the duty transmission supervisor and liaise directly with support staff and other departments of Arqiva
• The position also necessitates communication with third-party MCR/studio control rooms and some limited client contact

Skills/Competencies

• Media training and/or experience as a broadcast Transmission Controller
• Ability to manage teams when required
• Ability to prioritise own workload as well as the team's workload
• Very good customer communication skills
• Strong internal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

• Experience of operation of broadcast or IT equipment
• Be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the end to end process of Channel Playout
• Experience of working with ‘Live' inserts
• Good knowledge of transmission systems and/or broadcast systems
• Awareness and general understanding of UNIX/Windows operating systems
