Senior Software Engineer

Purpose:
This is a position for an experienced software developer. To be based at Crawley Court (Winchester)and be part of the software solutions team involved in product development for public safety customers. Primarily these are mobile data applications for the Police market although there are also fixed applications running on PCs and back-office servers for data collection (SQL server) and message routing. The mobile products will be based on a mix of platforms including PDAs and bespoke in-vehicle touchscreen computers. The candidate will be expected to take a lead role in the design, implementation and release of new software products.
Key Objectives:
- Directed by the team leader to work with the software team on both new development projects and existing (delivered) systems. These will form integrated solutions for Public Safety customers
- Take on team-leading role when appropriate
- Work with customers where appropriate in understanding and defining their requirements
- Produce documented technical designs prior to implementation with little instruction
- Full implementation using appropriate toolsets and target hardware
- Document internal testing prior to release to the team
- Assist with commissioning on customer site (if appropriate) and provide documentation to a level as to be able to be supported by operations personnel
- Support sales staff in designing, and presenting solutions for our customers
- Maintain and develop a high level of product and technical knowledge in areas as necessary to support the software design role and as directed by the team Leader
- Act as a focal point within Arqiva for knowledge on a particular product set or technology specialisation. Maintain a close relationship with Arqiva suppliers in order to ensure access to the latest product and technical information as appropriate to this role
- Undertake peer level reviews of designs carried out by other Arqiva associates as chairperson
- Provide technical advice and guidance to Arqiva internal and external customers in the use of Arqiva-provided solutions
- Act as the design authority for Arqiva product implementations where appropriate
Skills/Competencies
Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:
- Educated to degree standard in Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant numerate subject
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft C# for .NET framework
- Experience of development on devices using Windows mobile, XP platform
- Experience of development with Windows Mobile 5/6 on handheld devices
- Reasonable knowledge of Microsoft SQL server
