Project Engineer

Purpose:

  • To oversee and take an active part in the installation of new systems and equipment at Satellite Media Solutions (SMS) and customer sites
  • To ensure that installations meet the required engineering specifications and are delivered within in a timely manner
  • To work closely with Project Managers delivering end-to-end solutions
  • To provide technical documentation to support project managers with the handover process
  • To provide specialist support to all operational areas during fault situations
  • To supervise contract resource and suppliers during the installation phase, ensuring that all health and safety procedures are followed

Key Objectives:

  • Responsible for the installation, modification and testing of broadcasting infrastructure during the project build phase, and assisting local engineering staff as required
  • To work closely with the Project Engineering Manager and Project Management team in scheduling and prioritising work in conjunction with the needs of the business
  • A commitment to deliver first-class engineering solutions, setting and maintaining standards, and working closely with the local operations and engineering managers
  • To work closely with the Project Engineering Manager in developing installation, test, and commissioning procedures and documentation in respect of systems infrastructure
  • Maintain close relationships with suppliers, supervising and assisting with installation work as necessary
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal departments across the company, and provide and promote cross-division assistance where required
  • Provide good quality technical documentation to Project Managers and assisting with the handover process as required
  • To assist local engineering teams during fault resolution if required
  • Have a wide understanding of Broadcast Engineering and keep abreast of technological developments
  • Maintain a good understanding of relevant Health & Safety regulations and ensure procedures are followed
  • Work occasional nights and weekends to support planned work and other activities as dictated by the project roll-out programme
  • Travel to other Arqiva sites, along with supplier and customer premises as required, which may involve international travel

Skills/Competencies

  • Good understanding of Broadcast systems engineering, including testing and measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of satellite earth station installations, construction and testing
  • Must be able to respond at short notice to operational demands
  • Must be able to work as part of a small team, and be able to take on responsibility for delivering solutions in a pressured environment

Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience of operational processes and procedures, and an understanding of customer expectations
  • Experience of leading a team and providing supervision of contractors
  • Experience of fault diagnosis on broadcast systems and the able to offer advice to operational teams
  • Good knowledge of Broadcast and Satellite systems with a formal qualification preferred
  • Familiarity with the Broadcast operations environment
  • Familiarity with Visio or CAD drawing packages
  • Ability to use Broadcast test equipment
  • Clean driving licence
