IP Systems Engineer

Purpose:

Engineering support of IP networks including transmission, production and corporate IT networks. Contribution to new product design and build and maintenance of existing systems.

Key Objectives:

  • Engineering support to all IP local area and wide area networks for internal and external customers with successful completion
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all IP networks in Satellite Media Solutions (SMS) carrying both customer and corporate traffic so they can quickly identify issues and resolve them
  • Fault management and proactive systems maintenance for ensuring internal and external customer services are maintained to SLA standards
  • Ensure agreed service availability as per customer contracts so as to maintain service levels
  • Monitoring and responding to fault reporting systems at an engineering level for customers with success resolution
  • Monitoring and logging of the performance of IT systems as part of a routine maintenance schedule for IP Network Manager with weekly reports
  • Providing assistance in first-line fault diagnosis and repair for customers with success resolution
  • Carrying out maintenance on IT systems and networks for IP Network Manager as and when required without affecting service availability if possible
  • Assist in installation, configuration and acceptance testing of new equipment and systems for customers with successful completion
  • Close monitoring of support contract holders, when on site, to ensure that major faults are managed efficiently and effectively for IP Network manager
  • Keep accurate records of performance testing, maintenance and resource utilisation on systems and projects so that this can be reported on to management
  • Liaising with support contract holders in the scheduling of work, in the support agreement for customers, so that tasks get successfully completed
  • Fostering close working relationships with support contract holders and equipment suppliers so as to maintain relationships and improve efficiency
  • Assist in defining future system specification for upgrading and updating infrastructure so that equipment is utilised in optimal and efficient manor
  • Offer technical advice to other SMS teams and clients on an ad-hoc basis and on projects so providing input to what is feasible and equipment that is fit for purpose.
  • Assist in training of SMS and client staff as necessary so as to educate and broaden awareness of the topic
  • Housekeeping tasks as necessary so as to keep personal and shared documentation up to date, so improving efficiency
  • Promote an effective Safety, Health and Environment culture, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment within area of operation
  • Maintain a secure working environment in line with the requirements of the Arqiva Security Policy in order to protect individuals, information and Arqiva assets

Skills/Competencies

  • The ability to configure and troubleshoot routers, switches and firewalls

Technical knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required
  • Experience within a similar support role

Personal Qualities:

  • The position requires some travelling between London Neman Street, Bedford Teleport and Winchester offices
  • The position requires irregular hours of work and being on-call
