Director Profile: Gerry Moriarty

Gerry Moriarty was appointed Chairman of the Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group (MCIG) in December 2002. He is also an Executive Director of the Macquarie Investment Banking Group.  He joined Macquarie Bank in August 2002 firstly as Deputy Chairman of MCIG and Senior Adviser, Communications Infrastructure.

Prior to this, Gerry was with Telstra where he held a number of senior executive positions, the most recent being Group Managing Director, Telstra Infrastructure Services.

Before Telstra, Gerry was Managing Director of Broadcast Communications Limited and Corporate Director, Television New Zealand Group and prior to that Assistant Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). 

He is also Chairman of Broadcast Australia, Deputy Chairman of Arqiva and Chairman/President of the Bionic Ear Institute, an Australian scientific research Institute undertaking world leading developments in hearing improvement.

In June 2001 Gerry was appointed as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for services to the information technology and telecommunications sectors and as an advocate for the employment of leading edge technological capability to advance Australia's competitiveness in business and commerce. He was also awarded a Centennial Medal for his contribution to Industry in 2003.

He holds a first class honours degree in Electrical Engineering from Canterbury University (New Zealand), 1972. Gerry is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. In 1998, he was recognised as Professional Engineer of the Year by the Victorian Branch of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He is a past Governor of the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering (University of Sydney)
