Arqiva's philosophy of working for the betterment of the communities in which it operates has its roots in the history of its predecessors and today we are committed to a programme of continuous improvement.
Our three main sites each have their own programme of community involvement:
Crawley Court, Hampshire
Our head office has, for the past 33 years, been situated on the edge of the village of Crawley in Hampshire. The village has a long history, having a mention in the Domesday Book as Crawelie, and Arqiva aims to make our presence here a beneficial one. We support the life of the village by providing financial assistance for village activities such as, the restoration of the bells in the 12th century church, provision of equipment in the children's play area and the publication of a book on the village's history.
Arqiva is also active in our nearest city - Winchester - supporting local charities, education and the arts. For the past seven years we have supported the well-known Winchester Festival. This highly regarded event brings a wealth of national, and international, names in the fields of literature, music and visual arts to the residents of Winchester and its surrounds. The first citizen of Winchester, the Mayor, has been able to rely on the consistent support of Arqiva to fund events during their term of office which enables them to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Two well-regarded landmarks in Winchester - the Theatre Royal and Intech (an interactive science and technology centre) are able to operate today due to Arqiva's backing.
Chalfont Grove, Buckinghamshire
Chalfont Grove is home to the second of the company's four teleports (the others being Crawley Court, Bedford and London). Like our head office, it was the site of a substantial enough residence to be recorded in the Domesday Book, as Celfunte. The large yew on the south lawn is reputed to be over 1000 years old.
Since 1999 our Satellite Media Solutions Division, based at Chalfont, has been the primary sponsor of the Chalfont St Giles Country Show, an event which raises thousands of pounds for local causes.
Emley Moor, Yorkshire
Emley Moor houses our National Customer Service Centre. It is the UK's tallest freestanding structure and as such has received Grade II Listed Building Status for its architectural and historical importance.
The mast has dominated the skyline for the past 50 years and trips to the top have been a good fundraiser for local charities. Unfortunately the increased need for high level security has meant an end to this and the company has resorted to more conventional methods of supporting charities in the locality.
